River Merchant Lofts (RML) is a small,
gated condominium community on the banks of the Mississippi River in the
Uptown District. Located in an original river merchants' building, the
property witnessed the river commerce that built Memphis. RML is a building
of hand-formed, wood-fired red bricks and big beam heart pine that was
standing timber when Lewis & Clark passed this way.

Balconies,
front units
We have worked hard to not only preserve the
structure but to showcase these exact features that could not be built
today. Renovation and conversion have been more than a common construction
project. It has been an earth-friendly work of art....where creative use
and reuse of existing materials by on-site artisan craftsmen have put very
little strain on our environment. Where attention to detail and quality,
lasting products will continue to require less use of resources. Much was
salvaged...Much was saved.

"design on site"
A coined phrase that was the backbone of this project... use what we had...
design around what was there... be creative in your thinking and material
choices... let the project tell you what feels right and no two units
have to be the same. The job site became an artist studio with on site
metal fabrication, mold making and casting, wood shop and fixture
restoration. Plus our own on site "architectural” antique warehouse.
